Satan Incarnate
How I know time travel doesn’t exist.
Because if it did someone would have travelled back and dealt some double barrelled justice to the “Best-Selling Female Pop Artist of All Time”. I’ll leave you with a little thought.

OUTRAGE!!

OUTRAGE – REUNION OUTRAGE
(AND THAT’S THE WORST KIND!)

Anyone know of a good T Shirt printer? I want one that reads “TOO MANY REUNIONS”. It seems that every second day there is another exciting announcement that some long since past-it band is getting together again for some of that over priced and over croweded ATM reunioun tour dollar.

When The Police announced their reunion, most folks were mildly excited at the prospect of seeing them live. Granted the $200 price tag meant that I don’t know anyone who’s actually going, but there was no sour taste in your mouth about that.

Everyone is genuinely excited about not being able to afford to see Led Zepplin play again  - but HEY, that’s for charity so good on ya lads. Dave Grohl has held his hand up and said that he is at their beck and call. Good man Dave. Glad to see you’re doing something good, because Echoes , Silence, Patience and Grace’ is AWFUL! Smashing Pumpkins got back together  - nothing too offensive there.

In a recent post I shared the news that Van Halen will reunite minus Michael Anthony. Not surprising really, it looks like Wolfgang ate him. Where we really get a high reading on the sphincter scale is not the Spice Girls (Who cares?) or EMF (WTF?) reuniting but news that The Sex Pistols will not only reunite, but they’re rerecording ‘Anarchy in the UK’ for Guitar Hero III (That’s a video game.) They’re still calling it ‘Anarchy’ though, right?

Luciano Pavarotti  died at age 71 earlier today.
Sources close to Mr Pavarotti cannot confirm the involvement of Paul Potts at this stage. I sympathise with Italians over the loss of Mr Pavarotti,  because I know what it feels like to lose a Tenor.

R.I.P. Max Roach (10/01/’24 - 16/08/’07)

Last week saw the passing of one of the greatest drummers of all time.
I first became aware of Max Roach through the Miles Davis album “Birth of the cool”, the recording sessions which later were credited with creating the style known as ‘cool jazz’. Roach was at the forefront of many of the great movements in jazz music and played with all the greats: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and Clifford Brown.

What I love about Roach’s playing is that he solos, but doesn’t showboat. The restraint and clarity of his cymbal work many consider to be peerless. He played with not only a great number of jazz musicians, but also in a wide variety of styles, colaborating with jazz, soul and rap artists.

I have selected two tracks that I think give a snap shot of Roach’s genius. The first, a Thelonious Monk track,  Hornin’ In, showcases Roachs cymbal and snare work beautifully.
‘A little Max’,with Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus, showcases the ease with which Roach handles difficult time signatures.

If you want to hear more, I suggest the following albums where you can hear soem amazing drumming by Max Roach:

Miles Davis - Birth of Cool - 1950
Max Roach - Drums Unlimited - 1966
Max Roach & Anthony Braxton - Birth and Rebirth - 1978
