30_Borrowed_Beats_August_08_Edition - Stress Free Edition

Is everyone witnessing (or suffering from) the inordinate amount of stress involved in our daily lives recently? It seems everywhere I look a friend is out with a stress induced illness, or taking a few ‘mental health’ days.

No one seems to take the time to immerse themselves in anything anymore. People just buy the track they like, not the album - the death toll for music as a body of work. And that track they bought had better grab them in the first 15 seconds…

If all that rings true, then you will either love the opportunity of the August Edition or hate its lack of immediacy, because this month we’re not in a rush. So take some deep breaths and press play for a 68 minute aural massage.

I know I know I know! I had made a big deal with my mission statement, saying I’d not feature ( as Amy Winehouse so delicately put while on stage at Glastonbury) ‘that c**t Kayne’.
So I throw myself at your mercy while I share my secret shame. Lil’ Wayne.

So please, for my sake, listen to the first 53 seconds, and if you still hate it by all means turn it off. Spam me with abusive emails, whatever you see fit. But for now, at this moment in time, I think this track rocks. So much so that I just had to share it. C’mon - admit it. Ya’ll like it too.

Apparat - Things To Be Fricked

Apparat is a German electro producer and owner of the brilliantly named record label Shitkatapult. We like him already.

Apparat first came to my attention when he collaborated with Ellen Allien on the highly acclaimed ‘Orchestra of Bubbles’ and various remixes I’ve come accross. ‘Things To Be Fricked’ is a 2 disc release. The first disc is remixes he’s done, the second is his material remixed. There is an obvious connection across both discs, with the remixed themselves remixing. A standout is triplejaysus darlings Boys Noize ( featured in _choice_chewns #3 ) remix of ‘Arcadia’ and Apparats remix of ‘Shine Shine’.

While essentially a remix album, Fricked does showcase Apparat’s move to less straight forward dance formula, with heavy emphasis on strings and classical composition mixed with beats and electronic ambience.  Oft heralded as a founding father of the ridiculously named IDM genre, Apparat does deliver dance music that will stimulate and entertain fans of the less obvious spectrum of electronic music.
