VANSHE
_anticipation - VANSHE MIX

Got an email from MODULAR this arvo, stoking my already red hot anticiation of the upcoming VAN SHE release.

In preparation for the LP release, the band have also recorded + mixed their very own mixtape of some of their favourite tracks from today and yesteryear that have come to influence their new record in some way, making it an eclectic journey that buzzes at every corner.

The mix is some loose change over an hour long, and is typical of the ‘Hey kids, I just threw this together’ mix we have come to expect from artists like this ( Hear that Justice? ) - its a crackin’ mix with sublime production. If these bastids didn’t slave over this for days they’ve just made my shit list.

29_Borrowed_Beats_July_08 - World Youth Day Edition

‘Get your annoying World Youth Day T-Shirts Here’ read the sign outside a shop in Bondi at the weekend. That made me realise that no matter what side of the ‘last supper’ table you decide to sit, World Youth Day will have an effect. Work from home. Watch out for extra pedestrians. Forget Hyde Park or Randwick Racecourse, they’re closed. Get to the airports early. Your belief system is irrelevant, this is happening, and you will make allowances.

So why stop there. Whether or not Jesus is your bag, I’m taking you on Jesus’s trip through music. And if you are to believe all that is contained in the next hour or so Jesus is a black woman working her way across North America.

Controversy is never the aim here at the trinity of divinity, music is. So if you hear something here that might offend you, just wait a second and think - What would Jesus do?

Stu Kelly - Set the mood
Stu Kelly - Set the mood

TWO choice cuts of prime beefy beats are on offer at the moment folks. The first is the latest mix by Sydney Superstar Stu Kelly - ‘Set the mood’. A mix heavy on cool-as-phuque basslines and phat ass beats. Check it out here.

28_Borrowed_Beats_June_08_Edition - Missing the Tom Waits Tour Edition

There has been a lot of d’internet action around the release of Scar Jo’s ( I feel dirty typing that) album of Tom Waits covers. It features David Bowie, and was produced by Dave Sitek. They buried her vocals at the bottom of a reverb well. And she still sounds awful. But she shur does look purdy. *sigh*

Garnering less attention was the announcement of Tom Waits upcoming Tour - Glitter & Doom. Tom held a ‘press conference’ ( genius) and will meander across central America before criss-crossing Europe to Dublin. And I couldn’t be further away. So I thought we’d all wallow in his genius and lament our absence. To read more about this edition, click here.

Ladies and Gentlemen - I give you …Tom Waits!

27_Borrowed_Beats_May_08_Edition - Australian Electronica

Midway through a recent _wednesday_weview, I decided that the May ‘08 edition of Borrowed Beats would be Australian Electronica themed. I know that this theme will draw different reactions from you all. When I told my beautiful girlfriend lastnight what the theme was, she groaned. Not because of the specific tracks selected, but because of the thought of Australian Electronica.

Elsewhere, the opinion is very different. American DJ’s can’t get enough of the Aussie sound, and Tiga stablemates have been blogging about it for weeks now. The playlist features Cut Copy, The Presets, PNAU, Infusion and more.

Whatever your opinion, please make like George Michael and listen without ….eh…faith?
