24_Borrowed_Beats_January_08_Edition - Exclusive Stu Kelly Mix - What a Day!

I’ve had a crack at putting together a half decent mix recently, and thought I did a half decent job in December (apart from the EQ’ing - that’s what I get for playing it ‘Good Jesus’ loud and dancing around while I was doing it). So I thought I’d take a few lessons from a Pro.

Stu Kelly is a DJ of note in the ‘scene‘ here in Sydney, with a residency at Ki:kk:on and he kindly agreed to put together an exclusive mix for Triplejaysus. A quick bit of Photoshop, and hey presto! - The January 08 Edition of Borrowed Beats! I think you’ll agree that this mix was worth waiting for.

 BJK MIA SYD BDO TLA OVR LÖD

So Bjork has gone missing from today’s Big day Out festival in Sydney. It was announced today, the day of her performance, that she strained reason  fans loyalty her vocal chords during her performance at the Opera House lastnight. It would be easy to take a cheap shot about Bjorks well being, and indeed, it is almost impossible to find a photo of the Icelandic star where she doesn’t look a few cans short.

There is no doubt that her otherworldly abilities make for some cracking tunes, and better remixes. So don’t fret that you’re not at BDO, because neither is BJK.

Top Ten Triplejaysus 2007 Downloads

Don’t you just hate it when your best laid plans backfire? I was looking through the stats for this beautiful whimsey that is Triplejaysus, and one of the stats available was the top ten mp3’s you crazy kids downloaded. I thought I should share the list with you.

01. Foo Fighters - Long road to Ruin
This really killed me. I linked to this track as an easter egg in a post called ‘Outrage’, where I commented that the recent Foo Fighters album was AWFUL. And what do you go and do? Download Foo Fighters more than any other artist I reviewed. Even artists that got 4 and a half crows didn’t get downloaded as much as Long Road to Ruin. Turns out that track is aptly named. I’ve since removed the mp3 in a spiteful moment.

02. Biffy Clyro - Umbrella
A worthy second place winner, Biffy Clyro turn ‘Umbrella’ up to 11.

03. Maximo Park - Books from Boxes
In my opinion, the stand out track from Our Earthly Pleasures.

04. Mark Ronson feat Paul Smith - Apply some pressure
A track posted in the Maximo Park review, and probably the best track on Versions.

05. Plain White T’s - Umbrella
Another Rihanna cover, illustrating how popular that track was.

06. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - Just Dropped in to check…
The most popular track from the _Friday_funk series.

07. Queens of the Stone Age - Make it wit chu

08. Joanna Newsom & The Y Street Band- Colleen
I’m delighted that Joanna made it into the top ten. It makes me think that some of you dear readers actually check out some of the artists I recommend here.

09. The Isley Brothers - Fight the Power
The second _Friday_funk track to make it into the top ten, this Isley Brothers classic brought a raw edge to the series.

10. Triplejaysus   Borrowed Beats - 19_September_07_edition
Just scraping into the top ten downloads is the September Edition of the Borrowed Beats Podcast. It’s good to see that the podcasts get downloaded too. I presumed most people subscribed to the podcasts in iTunes or other readers.
